Encapsulated Nature - Celebration of Self Process Work
Using a natural product of water to incapsulate flora, exploring the idea of displaying native plants within the Auckland Domain Winter Gardens Fernery.
Foraging for plants in my backyard as well as at the winter gardens I collected a range of plant life, ferns, leaves, flowers, dirt and pond water. Exploring the narrative of these models, I was hoping to play with the sense of water taking it from a solid form to a liquid. Water and dampness is essential for our native ferns and plants to succeed, I wanted to have a play on this notion. The temporary sense of the models is something reflected within the natural world, plant life isn't permanent. Plants die, decay, decompose and disappear from our world, similar to the disappearance of my models. A temporary hand held item that will melt away the more you hold it and interact with the model.
